How your Jellycats Bunnies are embroidered and Personalised

Before choosing your personalised Jellycat, there are a few details surrounding our techniques that you might like to know.

The back of the Ears

First and foremost it’s worth mentioning that when any item is stitched or embroidered, the needle must go through to the other side.  So therefore, the reverse side of the stitching will always be visible on the back of the bunnies ears, and in fact any item that is embroidered, towels, blankets, bags, backpacks etc.  If you have an item that is embroidered you will notice the reverse side of the embroidery on the inside or the back of that item.

The only way to avoid the back embroidery would be to unpick the ears and detach it from the bunny, then embroider, resew and and reattach the ear.

This is not something we offer for a couple of reasons.

  • First of all this would be very time consuming, well over an hour for each bunny.  These costs would ultimately be passed on as an expense to the customer as we have to take wages into consideration, and we try to keep our embroidery prices as reasonable as we can.
  • Secondly, unpicking any seams on the Jellycat will void the safety rating.

Jellycats are made to very stringent safety standards, and most have a 0+ rating, which makes them safe for newborns, which is quite rare. So we’re reluctant to do anything to risk the very high safety standards that make them so attractive to so many of you for your babies.

The safety of your littles ones is of a premium to us, so we’ve chosen to only offer the through and through method of embroidery.

We have two different styles of bunnies and we treat each one a different way from a technical perspective and for best appearance.

Floral fabric on the Ears.

Some of our Personalised Jellycat Bunnies have fabric on the front of the ears. For these we embroider as usual and as mentioned, you will see the outline of the letters going through to the back of the ears.

Fur on the front of the ears.

The majority of our bunnies will have nice fluffy fur on the front of the ears.

To make the embroidery of the personalised name on the Jellycat or bunny stand out and be nice and distinct, we lay a foundation stitch down to suppress the fur.

We choose a color as similar to the fur as possible for the foundation stitch and the normal colour that you choose for the name, which lays over the foundation stitch.

This will appear as a patch on the back of the ear as shown.

Regardless of the style that you choose, the embroidery will settle over time and with love and some of the fur will work itself through, and the patch will settle to a tissue like softness.

We have literally done tens of thousands of personalised and embroidered Jellycats in this fashion.

You can be assure that the littlies dont mind at all.

Where will the persoanlised embroidery go on my Jellycat and which ear is which?

Your embroidery will always be on the front of the Jellycat bunnies ears.  We label the ears as they face us in the following ways.

With Blossom Jellcats we always embroider on the floral or patterned fabric.

With Plain Bashful Bunnies we embroider on the fur with a foundation stitch.

Ear One is the left Ear as the bunny faces you and Ear Two is the Right Ear from the same perspective.
